Demo is nothing new to us. In the past 5 years, we have remodeled our 3000 square foot home, a three bay car wash and a 1,000 square foot rental home. Add the birth of our two boys in that mix and you’d be right in calling us “crazy” (I’ve come to the conclusion that we don’t sit still very well!). Now, we are on the back half of the demo for Aunt B’s, our Ice Cream Shop, Bakery and Coffee House located on small town main street. Aunt B’s has by far been our biggest project to date. No matter the size of the project, demolition brings on all sorts of emotions, anxieties and doubts. You tear down, you lift the debris, you write the checks and you step back and you think “oh dear”.
That’s where we are now. At “oh dear.”
And then we start calling ourselves crazy. Sometimes stupid. However, at the end of those thoughts come the prayers, the reassurance in each other and our potentials and our support system saying “you CAN do this.”
I’m currently reading The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears by Mark Batterson. And boy, am I reading the right book at the right time. Actually, anything by Mark Batterson or Linda Dillow along with prayer manage my insecurities. If you are looking for some new books to add to your list, I’d recommend any one of their books.
So where are we now? We are at the “dirt in your drink call the chiropractor” stage. Thankfully, we’ve had help from a few young folks and other community members and friends to help move things along. It’s always fun and sometimes interesting to watch the dynamics while everyone is working. Let me tell you, it is like watching a well-rehearsed ballet in that shop right now. Everyone has been working hard and meshing well.
We’ve successfully filled a second dumpster with demo trash after another week of work. I am sure the community is ready for it to be gone from main street!
While the demo may produce timid thoughts at times, the energy and anticipation that comes with the entire process well surpasses those doubts. I like to stand in the middle and turn in slow circles just to take it all in. Hearing hammers, drills, muffled voices and seeing the progression of the designs is absolutely electrifying.
Until our next update, keep checking out www.littlemissmumsy.com for more blog posts and recipes. And don’t forget to give us a “like” on Facebook at Aunt B’s Ice Cream Shop, Bakery & Coffee House – Coming Soon. You can also find us on Instagram at auntb.has.icecream and on our Youtube channel. I do my best to keep up with all things social media. I wish I could do better, but my boys (all 3 of them!) and home management come first! <3
